Lost my prescription glasses today at Sauble Beach, was in the water pretty much right infront of the big sign at the entrance of the beach. Jumped into a wave and they fell right off. Would have been around 4pm on August 12th. They were men's, fairly big lens, black/grey frames.

I am trying to find out more about my ancestors who were blacksmiths in Paspebiac in the 1870s and 1880s. They were father and son and both named Frederick Nicolle. They both were born on the Island of Jersey. In later years they lived in Perce and then Bathurst NB.

Searching for descendants/immediate family members of Walter (Wally) and Alexandra (Sandra) Rennick - 0 replies

SueB Posted by SueB in Find friends in Little Britain on Tue Aug 10, 2021 5:26pm

Backstory: my late parents were best friends with the Rennicks - Fort Frances/Atikokan/Dryden area, early-to-mid 50s, when we moved out of the area. They'd kept in touch over the years, though I have no recollection of meeting them. Three kids: Robert (Robbie), Kent, & Karen Kristine; they'd be in their mid-late 60s.

Efforts to date: I've only been able to track a partial obit/tribute for Walter, for 8 Feb 2019, in the Perth (Lanark County) area. The tribute mentioned they had a farm(?) in Little Britain and a mention of step-grandkids. I'm guessing they'd been there a while  - hence my reaching out to the community. No mention of Sandra, so perhaps she's still alive/in LTC? The funeral home responsible for the arrangements was shut down shortly after, and no obit exists that I can find: both would have been invaluable resources, in that family relations/locations are usually included.

Request: I have several Rennick family photos that were in my late mother's collection, dating from the early 50s - 90s; I'd very much like to get these back to the Rennick "kids." I've had success tracking down and returning other vintage family/friends' photos, but various searches have come up with nada re: Rennick.

Any lead on their whereabouts would be greatly appreciated! I'm in Eastern Ontario.

Black bear sightings - 0 replies

ray Posted by ray in Health, beauty, fitness and sport in Tatamagouche on Thu Aug 5, 2021 9:42am

I am a user of the trail system for biking in Tatamagouche. I recently had a black bear sighting while biking on the trail section that comes out at the Sutherland Steam I have been advised that a family of bears lives in this section, and sightings are frequent . My particular event was ok, I saw the bear cross the trail from a few hundred yards away, and  used my voice, and bike bell to let him know I was coming towards him/her so that they could make their way away from me. When I got to the point where the bear had crossed, I could hear the cracking of branches etc, as he made his way through the woods a safe distance from me.

I write to you today to suggest that the Tatamagouche community may want to consider taking a stronger management plan to inform hikers, and bikers of the potential threat who are using the trail. In fact I think that there is an onus on the community to address this in a more serious manner to help avoid  an encounter with tragedy or physical harm to individuals.

I would suggest signage, informing persons of the fact they are there firstly, with advice as to how to best to avoid a nasty encounter, I.E. on not having food that would attract them ( bears), tips on having a whistle, bear spray, reminders that these are not domesticated animals to be fed, or patted, or gotten close to etc.

A black or white board that can be written on so that persons having a sighting on both ends of the trail, can update it with day, time, nature of the sighting, on a daily basis would be beneficial as well. This way individuals could make their decision to go or proceed on the trail if their had been a recent sighting. I think not taking action will only lead to consequences that are not good. Wild animal- human interactions can be managed with proper care, awareness etc. But not taking action to inform, is simply putting your head in the sand and not acceptable, as an event is sure to happen without management and public awareness. In fact the village, possibly the county may find themselves in a situation of a law suit from an injured person as the result of a black bear encounter because of the lack of action and stated public awareness.

I see this as a fairly serious issue, and one that should be acted on with all expedience. Sincerely, Ray Lindsay ( Truro), hiker, biker, frequent trail user. e mail [email protected].

Hello and help. my wife has lost an uncle by the name of Walter Candy, this is the story so far. walter was born 1897 in Ashby de la Zouch, England. He was in ww1 Houshold battalion Grenadeir Guards, Regiment No 386, rank Trooper. Houshold Battalion, Grenadier Guards, private reg No 30655. Royal welsh fusiliers No 30655, .. However walter emigrated to canada in 1928, although he may have been there on other periods and that is where his family lost him he never made contact with his family again. After some digging around the only glimmer of hope I have found is a ww2 war grave in Calgary (Burnsland) Cemetery, Calgary Alberta as a 2nd Lieut Royal Welsh Fusiliers Dd 13th Feb 1939. Is there anyone in this area who may have connections i.e. kin His headstone is on this website.... https://billiongraves.com/grave/WalterCandy/15611205#/
