Hi Alex, my name is Ron Mercer from Poynton, Cheshire, England. From information given to me by my late uncle Clement Mercer, who emigrated to Canada in 1922, who stayed with his cousin George Frederick Pickess at Hawthorne farm in Rocanville Saskatchewan.  Further investigations found no maps or any records of Hawthorne farm.I have spent many hours researching the ancestry site but nothing has been found concerning the link between the Pinkess and Mercer families. If you have any information I'd be most grateful. Best regards Ron Mercer email address: [email protected]

Hello Ron.

My Papa was George Frederick Pinkess. I always thought his parents were born in Canada but have only recently learned they were, in fact, born in England. I guess that would make us very long lost cousins. Sorry, I do not have any information for you.

Hi Pat, Thank you for your reply.  Since I sent the original topic on the 31/7/21, I now have my DNA test results, so the connection between the Pinkess and Mercer line is:-

Frederick Willian Pinkess married Lucy Ellen Dottie.

Lucy's father was George Dottie who married Hannah Clough.

Hannah's parents, Levi and Ellen Clough's children included:- William b 1826, Richard b 1831, Maria b 1832, George b 1835, Hannah b 1836, Ellen b 1839 and Orphelia b 1841, my great great grandmother who married James Mercer.

I believe your Papa sailed to England after the WW1 returning to Canada Feb 1920 from London (ship's name 'Melta').  I'm guessing he met my uncle Clement?

With the discovery of potash in Rocanville wondered if Hawthorne farm was affected.

Well Pat, its great to hear from you, please do not hesitate to contact me if I can help with the family tree.

Best regards,

Ron
