Hi there,

I am looking for information about the James family, in particular a Samuel James. He had a farm somewhere near Shamrock. The family story is that they emigrated with a number of other families from Carlow, Ireland. i think the farm was called Wilima Hill. I believe their decenants would have surname Hawkins.

thankyou

Suzanne James, Carlow Ireland

Hi Bonnie,

Apologies for my late reply. I did receive your reply and I read out that message to my dad who is 81 and from the same area where Samuel James came from in Carlow, Ireland . Samuel James was a cousin of my dads grandfather and the story of him emigrating to Canada around 1908 is widely known in the family. The James family in shamrock would have sent letters home over the years. I think it’s a fascinating story. A first cousin of mine made contact with a lady years back ( an Anglican bishop ) I believe who was the granddaughter of Samuel James. Betty garret ( nee Hawkins ) who I think it a number of years deceased now. I believe her daughter Sheila has made contact through Facebook. Technology is amazing. We wondered how they would have know about land available in Canada. I wonder was it advertised in newspaper of the day. It’s it amazing that he recorded his story in the history book.
many thanks and I’m delighted with this.

I think I will be able to make a connection with them, but not likely until May. I will get back to you after that.

I'm glad you are able to connect with the James family. I've deleted the posts with family information as I am not comfortable leaving them here, but if you need copies, please email me and let me know. You take care, and all the best.
